Anacapa Lodge holds Filipiniana Night: 18 July

Anacapa Lodge No 710 [Grand Lodge of California] had the Most Worshipful Bro Larry L. Adamson, Grand Masters of Mason in the State of California, as our Honored Guest at our first ever Grand Filipiniana Night last night.

At the surprise and delight of everyone present, the Most Worshipful did his "I heard it through the grapevine" dance routine with dark glasses and all. Prior to this, I instructed our DJ to make sure he plays that song since I learned from the Senior Warden retreat that that is the GM's favorite song. I did not know that he had a dance routine; and was surprised when he got up on the dance floor and started doing the "California Raisin: I heard it through the grapevine ad dance".

The lodge went nuts, everyone was taking pictures. I wish I had a movie camera and recorded the routine to record the moment of what HUMILITY and MEETING ON THE LEVEL really is. That my brothers is also what our Great Fraternity is all be about.

By the way, if any one care to ask... our Filipiniana Night [see photos here] was a great success and the Anacapa brethren can all be proud of what people "who can best work and best agree" can accomplish.

Kuyang Branpans,

Sorry to hear about your family emergency [see comment page]. I wish you were here with us that night but you got to do what you got to do.

We had an overflow crowd... maybe close to 200. I estimated 150 guests. So we had to add tables and chairs to accommodate the late comers... some drove 45 minutes from Goleta, Santa Barbara area. Bro Bon Munar drove all the way from your neck of the woods to be with his Mother that night. Thank you Bro Bon, sorry I was so tired didn't get to see you and Sis at the house before you guys left early. I was so dead tired and had to get up at 8:00 AM to go back to the Lodge to clean up.

Good thing our Galley Brethren (as always) have the foresight to cook more than enough food. Of course the "good eats" gets taken first. I did not get to eat dinner at all but some fruit salad, too much adrenaline and excitement. The Grandmaster joked that he got worried because I am not eating what we prepared. Everyone had a good time.

By the way, the Deputy Grand Master, RWBro Ken Nagel, is a retired Navy Commander who used to fly P3 from Cubi Point. He was not wearing a barong and admired my square and compass barong. I gave him one of my spare XXL. I had one in my car that I was going to give him at his Installation in October. He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and I figured out he did not have one given by a Pinoy yet so that when next year when he gets invited to another Filipiniana he is dressed appropriately.

I gave one to MWM Bro Larry Adamson at his Installation last year and that's the reason for the Filipiniana, " to make sure he gets to wear it... at my Lodge as he made me promised in front of my Inspector." The VW Grand JR Warden Bro Loui, (his first name escapes me right now) was very approachable and so is his friendly wife. I believe they're both Chinese from the Bay area.

Worshipful Asst. Grand Sec Bro Ted Galsim danced the Tinikling with the Grandmaster during the entertainment. Everyone had a blast and of course the one thing that everyone will remember about our Grand Filipiniana was the Grand Master of Masons in the State of California dancing his now famous signature dance, "I heard it through the gravevine routine". He is one cool Grand Master.

Be cool bro. We see you at the Second Eye Ball.

Kuyang Bert,

First and foremost, my congratulations to you my brother for a job well done. I know, and I can feel how proud you are for doing such a wonderful job for your lodge (i.e., Masonic cemetery clean up, GM reception and so on).

Being our kababayan at the helm, I am elated to boast and say, "Yan ang Pinoy, pag nagtake ng responsibility" taos puso.
