"During the Philippine Revolution, Pandi played a vital and historical role in the fight for Philippine Independence. It was in Kakarong de Sili, which about 6,000 Katipuneros from various towns of Bulacan headed by General Eusebio Roque, better known as "Maestrong Sebio" that the "Kakarong Republic" was organized shortly after the cry of Balintawak. History and researchers, as well as records of the National Historical Commission, tell [us] that the "Kakarong Republic" was the first and truly organized Revolutionary Government established in the country to overthrow the Spaniards antedating even the famous "Malolos" and the "Biak-na-Bato" Republics. In recognition thereof, these three 'Republics" established in Bulacan have been incorporated in the seal of the province of Bulacan."

VWBro Arwin Q Aro dropped working tools: 27 Nov 2009

VWBro. Arwin Q. Aro IV, of  Isarog Lodge #33, Concepcion Paquena, Naga City, dropped his working tools this morning Nov. 27, 2009.

His body lies at Imperial Chapel, Penafrancia Ave. Naga City. Interment will be on Nov. 30, 2009.

May GAOTU bless his soul.

Bro. Aurelio Constantino
Kalilayan Lodge 37

-----------------------

This is indeed a very sad and unfortunate moment.

VWBro Arwin is a great friend and a true upright brother whose character is undoubtedly worthy of emulation. He is very active member/officer of Isarog Lodge #53 and a driving force of its Masonic Assistance for Rural Communities (MARC), Inc. which is genuinely committed to help and assist the needy who are stricken with inadequacies in life. Some of those projects are medical-dental relief operations, gift giving during Christmas, and other Livelihood projects.

During the aftermath of Typhoons Reming and Seniang, he was one of the very first from Bicol (the other one that I know is WBro Dean Capucao) to lunch a coordinated relief operation within the Pinoy Masons egroup to help and assist the typhoon victims.

Pinoy Masons was just around over 500-member at that time but the turn out of donations and all kinds of help seemed to have been from over 5000 members.

Two more months and he will have his 43rd birthday (January 3). I guess he had a better way of celebrating since he will now have the GAOTU in his side when he blow those candles lighting his birthday cake.

To Sis Lily and Regine, Bro Mike, family and loved ones ---- my heart is deeply wounded and saddened by his departure. Please accept my heartfelt condolence during these moments of loss and sorrow.

"Eternal rest grand unto my great friend and VWBro Arwin, Oh Lord.... and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace...... Amen."

Thanksgiving and PMAAI Medical Mission 2009

Greetings!

As we near the time of year when all our families reconvene and all our energies are focused on fellowship, camaraderie, and turkey, let's all be reminded that to be thankful is to appreciate the people and enormous blessing connected to us.

This year, perhaps more than any in recent memory, has taught us that nothing is more necessary to a fulfilled life than being around our closest families and friends. In a year when many of our countrymen have seen their life savings swept away - whether by typhoons in the Philippines or by a stock market meltdown on Wall Street - we are truly reminded that the love of family and friends transcends any hardship that may cross our paths.

When a deluge ravaged Manila, it was Filipino camaraderie that carried our countrymen through the heartbreak. When the worldwide financial crisis left many of us without adequate means, it was the necessities of our immediate family that kept us going.

We, as the Philippine Masonic Association of America, Incorporated [PMAAI], may know more than anyone what it is to have a brotherhood whose reach crosses geographical and cultural boundaries. We understand what it is to have a support network when the going gets tough and to whom to turn when we seek help.

So, Brethren, this Thanksgiving, hold your family and friends closer than you ever have - and reach out to someone who may not be as fortunate as we are to have such a close brotherhood. It may make a difference to them more than we may ever know.

In light of this wonderful American tradition, please allow me to share the success of our recent PMAAI-sponsored Medical Mission held in Barangay Bagong Ilog, Pasig City, on November 2 - 5, 2009. We were humbled to serve 1,700 needy countrymen in the four short days we were in Pasig.

The remaining medicines and medical supplies were officially donated to Bagong Ilog Barangay Health Center on Friday, November 6th. And due to Mayor Robert Eusebio's(of Pasig City) delight with the Mission, he likewise donated a brand new, much needed, Dental Chair to the same Health Center just a few days later.

I am forever thankful to all of you, my brothers and sisters, for your support. To Brothers Phil Caliolio, Louie Decena, Jim Klinefelter & Fred Magsino and Sisters Faye Decena, Rose Magsino & Charrie Caliolio, thank you for helping me represent our organization in your presence. To the rest of my PMAAI brothers who took time out of your hectic Philippine vacation to visit and assist the Medical Mission in any form or capacity, thank you very much.

I would be remiss if I fail to mention the following who were also very instrumental in the success of the Mission; Memphis Mission of Mercy (Mr. & Mrs. Noli Zalamea-Founders), MW Bro Peter Lim Lo Suy, brothers & sisters from the Grand Lodge of the Philippines & its medical volunteers, Officers and members of Silanganan Lodge #19 under the leadership of WM Bro Willie Reyes, Kagitingan Lodge, VW Bro James Olayvar for his perseverance, VW Bro Elpedio de Chaves, WBro Rick Fulgencio, VW Bro Emil de la Rosa, Pasig Medical Society, Nueva Ecija Medical Society, Philippine Medical Association (PMA), Dr. Dollie Barawid-Prado for shouldering the most difficult task of all, being the Coordinator; to the brothers and sisters of my local chapter, PMATI (Memphis, TN Chapter), to my PMAAI brothers and sisters who have remained behind the scene; for your moral support and prayers and for believing in this vision. Special mention also to the Councils and staff of Barangay Bagong Ilog, Pasig, under the leadership of Captain Ferdinand “Bing” Avis, and finally, to Pasig Mayor Robert C. Eusebio for welcoming the volunteers to his city with open arms.

To the rest of the membership, please allow me to share the pictures during the Medical Mission thru YouTube. Please click on the URL below.

My family and I greet you a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving!

May the GAOTU bless us all.

Coronado Lodge 441 celebrated Veterans Day to honor all veterans of the armed services, by exemplifying a Table Lodge, complete with the seven traditional toasts. The orders for toasting, followed by a battery of 3x3 and 'Vivat' given thrice.

Table Masters were led by Bro. Dave Bean, [Capt USN Ret] and Bro. Caloy Buzon, [SC, Capt USN Ret.] and candidate was Robert B Catre, [HM2, USN] of Southwest Lodge #283, accompanied by their officers. Fines galore for all procedural infractions!

Retired and active duty personnel wore their uniforms, whether they fitted or not. It is also a day to be proud that we are citizens of a nation made great by the sacrifices and dedication of similar personnel who have served in the past, present and future and who honorably served their country.

Words to ponder by: On Freemasonry

Greetings Brethren!

Sharing some texts from excerpts of “MASONRY AND THE PHILLIPINE REVOLUTION” by MWBro Reynold S Fajardo and likewise a reminder of our continuing commitment as Masons to

……”BROTHERLY LOVE, RELIEF, TRUTH and LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY”.

"The meetings of the Lodge were of utmost interest. They were feasts of patriotism and Masonic apostleships; a marvelous communion of ideas and action, spirit and matter. Never did lips utter such eloquent appeals in the name of a universal brotherhood of all men as were heard at these gatherings. Never could Masonry have a more noble or a more chivalrous objective."

– TEODORO M. KALAW

"Masonry has consecrated its efforts to the task of uniting all men in brotherhood, erasing the differences of country, race and color, of banishing war, replacing the din of arms and clanking of chains with the sound of work and industry. The failure of the present Government, my dear brethren, proclaims the necessity of trying other civilizing means. If the despotic regime now in force in the Philippines oppresses without doing any constructive or progressive work, then it is our duty to carry beyond the seas the light of Masonry. Let us strive, therefore, to extend to the remotest corners of the Philippines the principles of our august order, teaching the people by precept and example, if not by legislation, the love of liberty, equality and fraternity."

- MARCELO DEL PILAR

"Masonry was established to give our people a school which would provide it with models for cooperative action (normas de sociabilidad) and accustom it to live as a collectivity. In the bosom of Masonry we have learned to live a life of association; in the midst of that brotherhood we have communicated to one another our impressions our thoughts, our aspirations, and we have made ourselves apt to unite our desires and our acts."

– MARIANO PONCE

"There is no place for doubt. A Fraternity that, like Masonry, has existed and will always exist through the centuries, paying unremitting homage to the eternal verities, consecrating its efforts to the redemption of humanity, is the destined liberator to bring freedom and right to the Philippines ."

– TOMAS AREOLA

"Masons should not rest so long as the world nurtures a tyrant, so long as the night gathers in its echoes the moans of the oppressed, so long as there are slaves, so long as there are oppressors. And this work is perhaps the greatest that Masonry has imposed upon itself and the only one worthy of its universal name."

Lessons from the US Navy by Bill Reichert

One man's eyes are opened up. Business Academy: Lessons From The U.S. Navy

A granola-eating, Left Coast venture capitalist gets schooled aboard
the USS Nimitz.

By Bill Reichert
August 8, 2009

Few civilians have the opportunity to stand atop a nuclear power plant driving 100,000 tons of steel through the ocean. Yet there I was, a Prius-driving, granola-eating, anti-gun, Left Coast Californian, on board one of the world's largest aircraft carriers, the USS Nimitz, as part of a Navy outreach program designed to give ordinary landlubbers like me a perspective on the mission and operations of a naval strike group.

While I hardly fit the stereotype of the typical armed forces booster (I am inclined to favor green technology over weapons of mass destruction), I discovered during my visit I could learn a lot from understanding how a small city floating on the ocean operates.

During the 30 hours I spent observing and conversing with sailors and pilots,I recognized several principles at work that make the Navy so successful. These are not unique to running an aircraft carrier, but represent important lessons for anyone interested in entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork and management.

1. Inspiration. Having a big, meaningful goal is a tremendous force for inspiration, motivation and cohesion. The Navy's mission is not some vague, abstract, feel-good paragraph in a business plan; it is concrete and easy to understand: to make the world safe. At least that was my takeaway. In addition to defending America, fighting terrorists and rescuing victims of piracy, the Navy helped the victims of the tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Though individual stories varied, the sense of pride and accomplishment among those with whom I spoke was powerful. Even in the best organizations, such pride is extremely rare.

2. Perspiration. If you have an inspirational goal, your employees will work hard. The Nimitz does not offer a 9-to-5 workday. Some days, crews are on the flight deck inhaling noxious fumes for 14 or 16 hours, into the wee hours of the morning, to ensure every plane gets back safely.

A maintenance chief told me that, given the age of the planes and the stress of carrier flying, a plane typically requires 25 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight time. Seems inefficient, but can you imagine the consequences of taking a shortcut?

3. Precision. The operations on board a nuclear aircraft carrier pose extraordinary danger; a simple mistake can result in death. Yet I watched scores of planes take off and land on a moving platform without a hitch. The activity on the flight deck at first seems random and informal--no stiff spines or tight formations-- but, really, it is an intricately choreographed ballet.

4. Teamwork. Watching these young people maintain, fuel, catapult and pilot F-18s, it's clear it's not about who is the hottest dog on the deck. Every person we talked with spoke about his or her dependence on, and confidence in, the team--to maintain the planes, to assemble the ordnance, to steer the ship, to guide the pilots in, to move the aircraft and a thousand other critical tasks, small and large.

Each person counts on other members of the team to get their part of the job done, and no one person can take the credit for success, or benefit from another's failure.

5. Accountability. There is no contradiction between a culture of teamwork and the need for individual accountability. In the Navy, everything and everyone is monitored and measured. During launch cycles, the drill is to get a plane catapulted off the deck every 60 seconds. According to our hosts, during the training exercise we watched, the greatest variation off that was 15 seconds. (Imagine if O'Hare could match that!)

6. Training. The Navy invests an enormous amount in developing the skills of its people. One officer I spoke with (at about 1 a.m.) told me his story--of joining the Navy as a somewhat unfocused 18-year-old.

Now, almost 20 years later, he is responsible for scores of people and millions of dollars of equipment, and is only a few credits short of his master's degree. No matter where they started, the men and women who rise through the ranks of the Navy are astoundingly competent.

7. Balance. The week before our visit, the Nimitz lost five crewmembers in a helicopter accident. These were not strangers; these were co-workers and friends. In this line of work, death is all too real, and there is a deep reverence for those who have given their lives in the service of their country. Yet there is also an irreverence that pops up quite frequently.

The captain, in welcoming us, referred to the aircraft carrier as being "kind of like a jail, except there's the possibility of drowning." And the pilot nicknames like "Freak Show" and "Booger" help ensure no one takes themselves too seriously.

8. Respect. In the Navy, if you don't like someone because of their race or creed, you have the opportunity to change your mind, because that person may be sleeping in a bunk 14 inches from you.

Respect isn't an altruistic ethic; it's a necessity. As I looked around the bridge at the diverse team of men and women running this multibillion- dollar acme of American technological accomplishment, I thought, "Why can't all of America be like this?" While many high-tech companies are well-integrated when it comes to race and creed (less so gender), when it comes to respect among individuals, most organizations have a lot to learn.

Certainly the Navy is not perfect. Egos, frustrations and resentments lurk. People make mistakes, and bad things happen. Not everyone agrees with all the decisions made up the chain of command or back in Washington.

The Navy understands that it is not well-served by squashing open communication, but, as in all organizations, there is a time and a place for debate, and the deal is that you do what the organization needs you to do when you are on the line.

Many entrepreneurs may find modeling an organization and its culture on the Navy an unappealing concept. But that's because they don't really understand what makes the Navy one of the most effective organizations on the planet.

Like any other successful business or group, it's about the people, not the technology. The key is harnessing the incredible potential of every individual through inspiration, training and teamwork.

Honor. Courage. Commitment. Not bad principles for any company.
