Rajah Indarapatra Lodge No 387 Consecrated: 24 May 2009

Brethren,

I have witnessed the constitution of RAJAH INDARAPATRA LODGE NO. 387 in Marawi City last May 24 and it was my first time to experience that auspicious event; and I am so impressed with the solemnity of the ceremonies.

The installation of officers immediately followed and the Charter Master - VW BRO MUSA SARUANG departed slightly from the traditional inaugural address by eloquently enlightening the non-Masons in the audience about the basic principles of Masonry and why it should not be misconstrued as a religion.

The preparations were superb and the Maranao cuisine during lunch was perfect.

The trip to Marawi was indeeda rendezvous of sort, and the brethren were great hosts to all of us. Mabuhay kayo RAJAH INDARAPATRA LODGE NO. 387.

Pinoy Masons Worldwide offer their deepest condolences to the family, friends and brethren of Bro Samuel "Sammy" Ong Sr. Our prayers are with you.

-------------------------

Various excerpts re death of Bro Sammy Ong Sr:

"Former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Deputy Director Samuel “Sammy” Ong, who gained national prominence when he boldly faced national media to expose the massive electoral fraud committed by then presidential candidate Gloria Arroyo as captured in the now infamous “Hello Garci” tapes, died at 6:05 p.m. yesterday [22 May Friday] of lung cancer at the Intensive Care Unit of the Chinese General Hospital in Manila.

"Former President Joseph Estrada visited Ong at the hospital yesterday and caught Ong before the former NBI director breathed his last.

"Upon Ong’s death, Estrada sent his condolences to the family of Ong, saying the former NBI official was “a brave and courageous man whom we should consider a hero because he fought for truth and justice for the Filipino people who were deprived of their chosen president.”

"Ong had been confined at the Chinese General Hospital since May 11 where he was brought by members of his family after he complained of difficulty in breathing. He was diagnosed to be suffering from terminal lung cancer.

"His attending physicians, Dr. Reynaldo Sebastian and Dra. Angeli Yu, had already given the whistle-blower a slim chance to survive. They however said that the patient could still respond to questions, although his voice was very inaudible. He was, up to his death, still mentally alert, the doctors added."

[From The Daily Tribune story by Conrado Ching, 25 May 2009, read full story here.]

"Since last year, Ong had been battling an advanced stage of lung cancer, the cause of his death, his son Samuel Ong Jr. confirmed. He was 64.

"[Actor Rez] Cortez said Ong was given the last sacraments by Bishop Teodoro Bacani last Wednesday as Ong's family was told that would die “any day now.”

"Ong's older brother, Henry, said it was difficult for the family to accept that his brother, whom he described as a “principled man” would never witness any closure on the ‘Hello, Garci’ scandal that he helped reveal. “It is very painful for us, very painful,” a teary-eyed Henry said.

"Ong's revelations of the controversy were a source of family pride, friends and family members said. “They were saddened, but I know that they were proud of what he did,” Bacani said.

He really fought for the truth,” Cortez said.

"Estrada said he would have wanted to meet Ong during his healthier days but the threat that Ong, who went to hiding after he was charged with rebellion, would be killed or arrested prevented them from doing so.

He sacrificed his life, his ambition, his career. He is a true public servant,” Estrada said.

Henry said his brother was diagnosed of having lung cancer just after his birthday on Oct. 8 last year.

"He said his brother, a chainsmoker, was not surprised by the diagnosis. “He said, ‘I don't blame anyone. I abused myself,’” he said.

To my mother lodge and her sons-- Congratulations!

To the Master of our lodge who piloted her to safety while rebuilding her along the way. I was a witness last year and I saw how he held on to that steering wheel like a real captain of an old galleon ship, gripping it so tight until his hands were numbed. But young as he was then, he never let go, thus our famous mantra in Bagong Buhay; "this too shall pass"; and he did steer us to the right direction. Congratulations Kuyang Nathz! Lodge Balmain Celebrates 150th Founding: 16 May

Lodge Balmain No 23 [UGL NSW & ACT*] will be celebrating it’s 150th founding this Saturday, 16 May at a reconsecration ceremony and banquet at Laurelbank Masonic Centre [87 Penshurst St Willoughby NSW 2068] starting at 4:00 PM.

As one of the oldest lodges in the jurisdiction, Lodge Balmain has its share of other lodges that amalgated with it; like Lodge Waratah-Pacific, which also amalgated with Lodge Pacific and Lodge Biloela in the recent past.

According to a news item by Eleanor Pearson in the Cumberland Courier,

"The lodge was founded by a shipwright at Balmain in 1859 when sailing was the only way to cross the Pacific.

About 40 sea captains have been members and even now membership includes a shipwright and navy personnel.

When the lodge meets each month members toast their seafaring forbears, ring a bell from an old ship, Westralia, and sing a seafaring ditty."

Filipino members of this lodge are VWBro Vergel Valderamma, WBro Bobby Briones, WBro Romy Nieto and WB Nep Reyes.

The Pinoy Masons Worldwide congratulates the officers and members of Lodge Balmain No 23 on this momentous occasion; especially members with Filipino heritage.

Support for 2010

My Dear Brethren,

May the Peace of the Great Architect of the Universe be with you!

I have no doubt in my mind that the Lord has all the while been preparing me for public service . I was left for dead in 1989, and He allowed me to spring back to life. I have been imprisoned as a soldier, but I fully regained the honor and right to wear a soldier´s uniform after having been awarded the Medal of Valor in 2001.

As my military career was very much back on track, I was again challenged to choose between right and wrong, between honor and injustice, between good and evil. Even as we all work for a vibrant and prosperous Philippines, my dream is for every Filipino to enjoy the essence of freedom from poverty, fear, and injustice; to feel the tangible benefits of good governance, and to live comfortably in a society that fosters the unity of the family, respects human rights, and upholds the dignity of all.

I have not had an easy life. My life story has been replete with vivid encounters and painful experiences that have shaped this dream. I am fully aware that some people would insist that men in uniform should stay away from politics; that we would serve best our nation if we were fighting wars in Mindanao; that we have no business in meddling with the affairs of the state as we have been formed and trained in the rudiments of war, and not in the civil service, much less in politics.

I agree - but that assumes that the people who have been entrusted with the public trust have been sincere, honest, and have been true to their pledges. As a young soldier, armed with idealism and the fire of youth, I have offered my life to defend this country from ALL its enemies.

I have suffered long and hard for the principles that I hold dearly. Many of my loved ones have suffered with me - maybe not physically, but certainly have shared in the misery and hardships that I have endured. The fire of idealism still burns in me, but I have been wiser not to engage fire with fire.

I am running for the senate in 2010. I have no political pedigree. I have no political machinery. I have no financial resources. But I do have honor. I do have principles. I do have courage. I believe I am ready to take on this new role, with your support this dream is not too farfetched. It takes the collective effort of every member of this society to make things improve for a country in disarray... a country that has been plundered... a country whose hope is running dry... All I can do, on my end, is to make the best effort possible to make society better, stand by my principles, and fight for what is right. There is hope for this country and our people, all we have to do is believe. This I will do, if not for myself and our generation, then at least for my young children and their children.

My fraternal regards to all.

Sincerely yours and Mabuhay ang Pilipinas,

BRO ARIEL O QUERUBIN
